Sundays COTA points round 3 at Rock Hill turned out to be a challenging and fun event.  40 plus riders turned out.  The sections were set up for a dry day but we had rain off and on throughout the day, which made for a lot of muddy hill climbs.  We all had a lot of mud to wash off the bikes when we got home.   11 new and returning members joined at this weekend’s event so our total membership is now around 80.  Welcome to all the new members, we look forward to see you at the rest of the years events.   Thanks to the observers who spent the day out in the rain to do the checking, the girls who signed us in and totaled the scores, Gary and all the people who worked on the sections and of course Lester’s for hosting the event.  Max has a link to the scores below and there some pictures posted by Jake Metteer  http://www.observedtrials.com/discus/messages/2/2210.html?1207608733.  The next event will be the Columbia Cup.  For information see the link above.

Dallesport round 2

51 riders decided to show up to one windy trial in the gorge Sunday, our largest turn out in years. A total of 8 sections and three loops for the morning riders, and 4 loops for the afternoon riders, kept everyone busy. The weather was cool and sunny, but the wind never let down. In some sections you had to be careful or you could get blown off line, just another added bonus on top of everything. Thank you to all the observers who battled the wind all day, Gordon and Kristin for doing the sign up and scoring, and to Tom Niemela for taking some pictures of the event. LINK TO TOM'S FORUM AND PICTURES Hope to see everyone at rock hill on April 6th.

 Great start to 08 season.

42 riders made the effort to show up, and it was well worth it for the season opener.
Trials marshal Ken Levens,  set a course of 8 section to be ridden four time by all, in a three hour time limit, the course also consisted of three new classes for 08, champ, vintage A intermediate line and vintage B novice line, I think we will see these classes grow has the year
goes on.
The weather for the trial was perfect with just enough slime getting dragged on the rocks to catch you for the big dab if you were not careful.

Thanks to ken for all the hard work,  Gordons daughter for doing sign up,  and Max for getting the results out so soon. Hope your all keen to take on round two at Dallesport on Sunday March 16th.

20 December 2007 Update

The COTA awards dinner turned out great! About 30 people showed and enjoyed the dinner hosted by Didier at La Providence in Lake Oswego. It was good to see Tom Young again. Awards were presented to the riders for the 2007 season.

Club business that transpired was Hank Wirth accepted the nomination for club president and was voted in by the members attending the dinner. Hank expressed enthusiasm for the post and has plans to generate growth of the club and awareness of trials. Hank would like to have a Club Meeting Tue January 22nd, 7pm La Provence Lake Oswego, with special encouragement to present and past board members to attend.  Congratulations Hank!

We have a nearly full calendar of events to look forward to this year starting with a trial at Washougal on the 17th of Feb..  We are also looking to have some organized (free) trials lessons/seminars put on this year by some of the advanced and expert riders, for riders just getting started and intermediate riders looking to hone their skills.  We are looking at new areas to hold events and have some promising canidates, so stay tuned for the latest info, it will be a great year.

See you at the club meeting and Merry Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!!

2 December 2007

Last Minute Wet Girls Trial was as the name implied very wet.  About 15 riders showed to ride the greased glass like mud and slippery roots that we all know Washougal to be like in the rain.  There were even  a few champ lines for Kevin to show us how it done.  Two new riders joined us Mark Riehl and Julio Paredes, welcome to trials Mark and Julio!  There were some new Disneyland sections and new lines in past sections Valerie Ulver provided stew to feed and warm up the rider after getting soaked to the skin.
Jason " bump me to the expert class" Matheney  set the advanced class on fire while Daniel Blanc soldiered a hard earned second place with bike issues and not being used to a bike that's been weighted down by an extra 10-20 lbs of mud.  We all had a great time!
Thanks to John, Dan, Jay, Ken, and all for helping put this last minute trial on.

11 November 2007

The Dennis Schrieter Memorial Trial at Rock Hill near Albany for those who missed it, was a great success.  About 60 riders enjoyed advanced, intermediate, novice, vintage, and trail bike class lines.  The weather was wonderful and many spectators came out to watch the riding. Duane surprized us with his skill on a bicycle.  Many thanks to Gary Beyer, Grand Prix Cycle, G&G Cycle, Lester's Ranch, and all the people who worked to make this a great event.  Result and pictures will be added when I get them.

October 7th
The Lolo pass trial this weekend turned out to be one of the best of the year, even the weather stayed perfect for the event, cool and dry but not cold, two loops of fourteen sections for Int, Adv and Exp, while the novice took on their own course of three loops.
A few riders found it worth while as they moved themselves up the year end rankings, with the tightest class being the intermediate, with both Daniel Blanc, and Mike Wirth tying on 50 points, Mike getting the nod on most cleans.

Thanks to Kent, Keith and families for all the hard work and a very enjoyable trial, I hope we can ride the area again in 08.

The results of the Lolo pass trial and year end standings are now posted on the results page.
Sept 16th 07
Sidewinder trial.

Cool weather and good technical sections lead to a very good day of trials at the Lambert property, trials Marshal Odus added a few twist and even some champ splits to test the better end of the expert class without killing the pensioners.
It worked well, and left him with a good chance on home turf at lifting the top expert award, all I can say is! sorry Odus, better luck next time son.
Gordon and Brian were pulling out all the stops to try and unseat the Beaver creek bandit, but to no avail, the bandit made away with the spoils again.
Young Daniel Blanc is starting to look the man to beat in the intermediate class.

Thanks to Tracy and Odus for a fun day of trials.

15 September 2007 Hammer and Tongs Vintage Trials

The Hammer and Tongs Vintage Trial event held in Goldendale was fun event for all. For those who missed it, about 15 riders and their families turned out to ride lines set by Jay Lael, the trials marshal. The weather was great and a good time was had by all. Here’s a link to a few pictures  http://www.observedtrials.com/content/gallery/hammer-and-tongs-goldendale-07109.php

Aug 27th 07.Cota round, report.

Well! this weekend saw the penultimate round of the COTA championship, staged out of Diamond mill, due to the mystery bridge closure, resulting in what turned out to be a fun ride over to Cedar creek to tackle three loops of  9 sections.

The sections turned out to be very technical for some classes and very nerve wracking for others, Max just had to put his boot down to make sure the earth was still there.

Good camping and food and plenty of good company made for a great weekend as usual, a big thank you to Mike Wirth for putting on another fine event.

Next and final chance to gain a place or two in the COTA  07 series  will be on the mountain at Lolo pass, where some old and not seen for many years, and some new sections wait to challenge.

The  photo of the month, was taken by Allison at this years Dabber

Don't worry,  you will all get shamed in time, Allison gave us plenty of material.
